Jaco Ishulutaq was born in 1951 in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. He makes sculptures and tapestries and started carving at the age of sixteen. He learned by watching his grandfather and has since enjoyed making medium-sized sculptures from  antler, ivory, whalebone and, more particularly, stone.  His favourite subjects include people, birds and other animals.
